Red Rock, Arizona, has a history built around movement. Trains and mule-drawn wagons once connected the settlement with the Silver Bell mining district. The post office opened in 1887 as “Red Rock,” became “Redrock” in 1895, then returned to the two-word spelling in 1950. Arizona postal records say the community developed to serve the Silver Bell smelter. Today, Red Rock is an unincorporated census-designated place with a 2024 American Community Survey population estimate of 3,277.
The railroad did more than haul ore and supplies. Silver Bell Historical Society records describe trains carrying water from Red Rock to Silver Bell, where a water plug stood near merchant Glenn Baker’s store. Baker hired local boys to deliver it to homes in five-gallon cans, two at a time, balanced on sticks across their shoulders. A later 21-mile line connected Red Rock, Sasco, and Silver Bell during the early twentieth century. The railroad supplied mining communities that depended on connections to Red Rock for far more than moving copper and silver.
The CAP National Recreation Trail follows the Central Arizona Project canal through Pinal County. Its southern segment runs 10.5 miles from the Pima County line to Park Link Drive on the canal’s elevated maintenance road. The path is mostly flat and unpaved, with room for walking, running, gravel biking, and horseback riding. Pinal County opened another 39.2-mile section in March 2026. Once complete, the county trail is planned to extend nearly 100 miles through Red Rock, Eloy, Coolidge, Florence, and Apache Junction. The trail itself received National Recreation Trail designation in 2003, years before the Pinal County sections now in use were completed. County information also notes frequent raptor sightings along the southern segment.
Arizona Public Service has operated the Saguaro Power Plant here since 1954. The facility remains an active part of Arizona’s electrical system, giving this small community an industrial connection that predates much of its modern residential development.
Arizona State University has its own connection to the property. APS built and operates roughly 29 megawatts of solar generating capacity at the site for ASU, making the community part of the university’s off-campus solar program. The proposed Saguaro expansion would add about 720 megawatts if approved.
The former Red Rock school is getting a second life through the Silver Bell-Red Rock Regional Museum. Silver Bell Historical Society has partnered with Red Rock Elementary School District to develop exhibits centered on silver and copper mining, the Arizona Southern Railroad, and communities that once existed in the Silver Bell Mountains. ASARCO has contributed artifacts, including mining equipment as large as ore trucks. The museum is scheduled to hold its grand opening on November 7, 2026.
VINYLINES grew out of owner Tyson Veen’s automotive design work. He began cutting custom decals in 2006, then formed the company in 2015. Today he produces vinyl decals, paint stencils, heat transfers, and custom vector artwork.
Whimsy Woods AZ takes its inspiration from the owner’s grandparents, one a painter and the other a woodworker. Its catalog includes engraved cutting boards, earrings, beard combs, flasks, ornaments, and keychains. Some pieces are playful, including a “Tame the Kraken” beard comb.
Red Rock Village brings rotating food trucks into Community Park. One recent lineup paired Big Sexy’s Burger and Wings with Sonoran Scoops Ice Cream; another brought Donut Blitz together with Samuritas Steak and Sushi. Donut Blitz makes mini donuts to order, with toppings such as cinnamon sugar, chocolate glaze, strawberry shortcake, and “dirt n’ worms.” Its truck also serves fresh-squeezed lemonade and iced cold brew. Big Sexy’s menu includes burgers, chicken wings, corndogs, chili-topped hot dogs, and Frito pie.
Red Rock Village’s recreation calendar has personality. Summer Splash opens pool season with a cardboard boat race. Plant Bingo gives houseplants as prizes. Heroes Night invites residents to meet local firefighters, explore fire trucks, write thank-you notes, and cool off under a fire spray.
Spring Carnival and Jingle Jam are annual signature events, while smaller gatherings include kite flying, stargazing, Bark in the Park, movie nights, crafts, and teen skatepark gatherings. Recreation facilities include a swimming pool with a slide, skatepark, basketball court, ball fields, playgrounds, picnic ramadas, and pocket parks.
Red Rock has spent much of its history moving things from one place to another, from ore and water to electricity. Steam Smart Pro handles a different sort of work inside local homes and businesses, including upholstery cleaning, dryer vent cleaning, and water-damage restoration. If a room, vent, or water problem has been sitting on your list longer than it should, contact us and hand the job over to people equipped to deal with it.
